Afro-Jewish band dominated Nazi-occupied Denmark's music scene




During the Nazi occupation of Denmark 1940-1945, the jazz orchestra Harlem Kiddies, which boasted a line-up of three black musicians and a Jewish singer, was all the rage – today the orchestra is all but forgotten. New research from University of Copenhagen shows how an Afro-Jewish orchestra managed to succeed in Nazi-occupied Copenhagen and writes the Harlem Kiddies back into music history.
