Prof. Dr. Detlef Weigel from the Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology in Tübingen, Germany, receives one of the coveted ERC Advanced Grants, awarded by the European Research Council. The grant provides €2.5m over a period of five years and will support Weigel’s project IMMUNEMESIS. The scientist wants to discover how plants decide if they rather invest in growth or in the defense of bacteria, funguses, and insects.
